In 1977, Aston Martin resurrected the 'Vantage' name much to the delight of automotive enthusiasts worldwide. The Vantage name had been previously applied to high-powered versions of the DB six-cylinder cars. When the V8's arrived back in the late 1960s, the Vantage name lay dormant.

The V8 models, as one would expect, were heavier cars than their six-cylinder predecessor. The engine suffered as emissions legislation became even more restrictive, leading to concern that Aston Martin (and many other performance marques) might lose their traditional ingredients which made then special. With the re-introduction of the Vantage name, these fears were put to rest.

The tuned version of the existing 5340cc engine was given a quartet of 48mm Weber carburetors in-place of the standard 42mm units. Valves and ports were enlarged and the camshaft changed. The result was in overall output of around 375 horsepower. The changes to the chassis were minimal apart from larger ventilated discs and low-profile Pirelli tires. The most visual exterior update was the blocked-off bonnet scoop, blanked air intake, front chin spoiler and lip on the boot lid. The Series III Vantages were built in low quantities and just 38 are thought to have been completed, along with a further batch of eight more delivered to Canada.

This AMV8 was built in August of 1977 and originally painted in Raven Black. It is believed to have original belonged to George Minden from Canada. Not uncommon at the time, this example has been enhanced with the X-Pack upgrade in 1990, with four Weber 48mm carburetors, larger inlet ports and high lift camshafts.

The motor was given a complete rebuild in 2008. At the time, it also received new wheel hubs and bearings and a set of re-finished, original 16-inch Series III wheels. Soon afterwards, the car was repainted in the original color and the interior was given extensive work, with new Wilton beige wool carpets, new seat cushions and re-trimmed trunk. Both front and rear bumpers were re-chromed at the same time.

The car has changed several times since its original owner. The most current owner acquired the car in early 2010.

In 2013, the car was offered for sale at the Bonhams Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. As bidding came to a close, the car had been sold for the sum of $167,800 including buyer's premium.
