1958 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Concept Convertible

1958 marked the last year before Harley Earl went over the top with Cadillac tail fins. More elegant and subdued, the 1958 tail fins created a sense of motion and careful aim. At 221.8 inches from nose to tail – an astonishing 18 feet, 5 inches – the Eldorado Biarritz was an enormous, imposing automobile. It is powered by a 365 cubic-inch, 335hp engine topped with three 2-barrel carburetors. The Eldorado Biarritz's combination of power and presence has arguably never been repeated in such spectacular fashion.

This is one of five Eldorado Biarritz pulled off the production line for modification into GM Motorama display cars. Modifications included a moisture sensor in the center of the rear deck, a deeper well for top storage, and a motorized tonneau cover. The flush top stowage made for a lower, cleaner design with the top down. If a drop of water hit the moisture sensor the tonneau cover would retract and the top would close and the windows would go up. Also unique to these cars were the four bucket seats and upholstered transmission tunnel.
