Sold for $52,800 at 2013 Gooding and Company - The Amelia Island Auction.
Since the company's inception in 1910, the business has been a family-owned affair with their work rooted in the manufacture of affordable, sporting, and tax-friendly three-wheelers. The Morgan Motor Company introduced their first four-wheeled model in 1936. The design was elegant and flowing and dubbed the 4-4. The name was soon changed to the 4/4 in reference to the car's four-wheels and four-cylinder engine. Production of the 4/4 resumed after the close of World War II until the model was discontinued in 1950. Market demand eventually brought a revival of the 4/4 production in 1955 to help fill the void left by the demise of the MG T-Series roadster.

The Morgan 4/4 offered an invigorating and engaging driving experience with its lower center of gravity and superb performance. Production was always in limited quantities, and today, the Morgan 4/4 continues to stand proudly as the world's longest-running production car.

This Morgan 4/4 Roadster is an early production Series V and one of the batch of only 639 such cars produced between February 1963 and March 1968 with power supplied by a ford Cortina-sourced 116E four-cylinder engine. There is a Ford four-speed manual gearbox with disc brakes in the front and hydraulic drums in the rear.

The current owner acquired this car in the early 2000s from collector Howard Lee Pardue of High Point, North Carolina, who purchased the intact and unmodified car in 1982. While in Mr. Pardue's care, the car was treated to a complete nut-and-bolt restoration to concours standards.

This 4/4 Roadster retains its metal body panels, Connolly leather seating, and full Wilton wool carpeting. There is a full tonneau cover, side curtains, and leather storage bag.
