1928 Gardner Model 8-85 Roadster

This Model 85 is powered by an 86 horsepower 247 cubic-inch inline eight-cylinder engine. It boasts a double-drop frame that provides a low stance, an automatic centralized chassis lubrication system, Lovejoy hydraulic shock absorbers, and hydraulic brakes; all of which made for a very sophisticated and stylish automobile.

Defying logic, Gardner offered 50 different color combinations, 25 different interiors, and the availability of any custom color upon request for 1928; an incredible feat considering it built 3,177 cars that year.

This car is painted in a combination of red/buckskin with black fenders and running boards replicating a period advertisement of the car. Of special note are the elaborately decorated art deco door sills and dashboard in addition to the massive griffin hood ornament. The restoration was completed in September 2012. It is one of approximately 800 Model 85s built in 1928, one of four known to exist today, and the only Sport Roadster extant. Gardner built its final cars in 1932.
