1952 Frazer Nash LeMans Navigation
Completed in December of 1952 and featured at the 1953 Earls Court Motor Show, this Frazer Nash was soon shipped to the United States. Finished in white, the car was delivered to Stuart 'Duke' Donaldson, a Frazer Nash enthusiast who is known to have owned a number of other Frazer Nashes, including the LeMans Replica 421/100/160 with which he won Sebring in 1952 and the Mille Miglia 421/100/168. Donaldson entered his newest Frazer Nash into the 1953 running of Sebring where the car, raced as #1, performed admirably for the beginning of the race but did not finish placing 49th overall.
In 1958 the car was purchased by then-32-year-old racer George S. Waltman. Among the heroes of the 'Golden Age of Endurance Racing', Waltman repainted his Frazer red and drove it at Watkins Glen, Bridgehampton, Lime Rock, and various other tracks. Cutting his teeth in the car, he would later go on to achieve a great level of recognition for racing the 12 Hours of Sebring, and later the 24 Hours of Daytona, driving solo and without a pit crew-finishing both races admirably. In addition to Frazer's exploits on the track, it was also showcased at the 1963 New York International Auto Show.
The car has remained in Mr. Waltman's collection. With advancing years, racing activities were curtailed in the late 1980s and the Frazer was carefully stored until his passing in January of this year. The car remains in the Waltman Family's collection and has not seen active service in a quarter of a century.
Still showing exceptionally well today, this time-warp racer still has its original engine and live rear axle. Exhibiting a beautiful patina, it represents a rare example of a period 1950s sports racer that has unbroken history from new, long-term single-family ownership, and no stories to dampen the provenance of this spectacular motorcar.
