1903 Michigan Model A Navigation
The Blood brothers of Kalamazoo built their first car in 1902. They formed the Michigan Automobile Company with the Fuller brothers and Dr. W.E. Upjohn in 1903 to produce cars. The company continued production until 1913. The Fullers built transmission and eventually became part of the Eaton Corporation.
The Michigan car was powered by a deDion one-cylinder air-cooled engine with 29 CID producing 3.5 horsepower. It rides on a 54-inch wheelbase, and over one hundred were built at a price of $450.
This car was originally purchased in 1903 by the Swain family of Elkville, IL, by mail order. It was shipped to them in a crate. The car was acquired by a collector in 1925 for $10.00 and restored in 1956. It passed through a number of collectors until the current owner acquired it in 2005.
