1968 Shelby Mustang GT500 Coupe

In 1967, this GT500 was used by Shelby American as an engineering test-bed vehicle for many upcoming new features. This would be the car that would receive one of the first 428 cubic inch police interceptor engines with air conditioning, (which would require special cooling), the outboard lights, a special louvered hood, the rear defogger panel and more.

This car was purchased at the Barrett-Jackson auction in 2006 as a nice lime green 1967 GT 500. Several years after purchase, the owner was stricken with cancer and passed away. After languishing untouched for several years, it was sent to Legendary Motor cars in Canada for a full restoration. Upon disassembly, it was found to be the '1968' prototype that was assumed to have been destroyed many years ago. Acapulco Blue paint was found under the layers of paint and various other tell-tale signs of unique features were researched and confirmed. They have uncovered the car that was considered lost!
