1935 Aston Martin Ulster Boattail Racer

  • Chassis Number: LM18
1935 Aston Martin Ulster Navigation
Only 30 Aston Martin Ulsters were built by the factory, 10 of which were team cars with an LM prefix to their chassis numbers. Italian-born A.C. 'Bert' Bertelli was in charge of Aston Martin's racing exploits. Breaking with tradition, he painted his team cars red because he believed green cars were unlucky. He was right to be superstitious as the red cars brought home the team prize at the RAC Tourist Trophy race in Ulster. The 1935 Ulsters were the most successful of the Bertelli-built Astons, also garnering a 3rd overall at Le Mans.

This Ulster had an illustrious racing history and is still raced today by its owner and family. Built for the 1935 Le Mans race, it finished 12th overall, with drivers James Elwes and Mortimer Morris-Goodall. In the RAC Tourist Trophy later that same year, the car finished 5th. It has just been freshly restored to look exactly as it did at Le Mans in 1935.
