The H6 Series, with an 8-liter straight-6 engine, was introduced in 1919 when Hispano-Suizas was already considered to be some of the finest automobiles available. In the 1920s, the production of the H6B gave way to the H6C. Only the finest coachbuilders - such as the European coachbuilder D'leteren Freres - was commissioned to create the bodies for these expensive chassis. Jean Joseph D'leteren founded his small workshop in Brussels in 1805 when Belgium was still part of France; in 1884 D'leteren Freres became the official supplier to the Dutch Royal Household. By 1939, the company had produced nearly 6,000 coach-built bodies for luxury manufacturers such as Delahaye, Mercedes, and Hispano-Suiza.
