Chassis 2311249 was one of the last 8C 2300s built. It entered the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 16-17, 1934 with Italian Luigi Chinetti and Frenchmen Phillipe Etancelin.
One of four 8Cs favored in the race, it outlasted at all, including two Bugatti's, despite a split fuel tank. Entrants at Le Mans were not allowed outside assistance, however, loophole allowed the leak to be plugged by team members chewing gum and sticking it into the crack. The chewing gum repair incredibly lasted until the end of the race.
The win marked the last of Alfa Romeo's domination at Le Mans after a four-year run (1931-1934).
