BMW launched the 503 model at the 1955 Frankfurt Motor Show. Introduced at the same time with the BMW 507 TS, this car was built as a luxury sports car by famous designer Albrecht von Goertz. It featured a more conventional look than the 507 and was available with both 2+2 convertible and coupe body styles. The 503 Cabriolet shared its engine with its 502 predecessor, a lightweight 3.2 liter, V8 unit delivering up to 140 horsepower.
This car was built in July 1958 and delivered to Garage du Rond Point, SA, in Brussels. It is the 23rd of 58 Series II Cabriolets built by BMW. The vehicle was discovered in 2010 in rural Ohio, where it had been stored for 30 years. Immediately following the completion of its three-year restoration, the 503 successfully participated in the fun-filled Pebble Beach Motoring Classic in August of 2013. It retains its original engine - a 3.2 liter variant of the first post-war German V8 with 140 horsepower and a top speed of 118 mph. It is the first German cabriolet with a power top.
