David Dunbar Buick, along with providing the marque's name, was responsible for the company's use of 'valve in head' engines. Buick formed the underpinnings of Durant's General Motors Corporation. In 1909 and 1910 Buick's were so popular that they outsold the Ford Model T. They were priced to compete with the Model T, selling for $850. They were the best-selling Buick model, with over 8,000 sold in 1909 and almost 11,000 in 1910. It was offered in 'Buick White' and promoted as 'The White Streak' in recognition of its competition successes.
This Buick Model 10 wears a Touring body style with seating for four passengers. The current European Museum purchased the car from the Richard C. Paine, Jr. Collection. Paine had acquired it in the mid-1960's from Dr. Samuel L. Scher.
The car is equipped with Rushmore acetylene headlamps, Solar kerosene sidelights and an E&J taillight. A single spare tire (no rim) is secured to the right running board next to the driver. It has an older AACA National First Prize badge.
The car has been largely unused for many years and may require re-commissioning to return the Buick to the road.By Daniel Vaughan | Nov 2013
