The Fiat 1100, among the first all-new post-WWII cars in Europe, was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 1953. It was practical and could reach 75 mph. Many Europeans enjoyed modifying and enhancing their Fiat 1100. When Formula Junior was conceived in the late '50s, the first and best front-engined Juniors – Stanguellini and Taraschi - were Fiat 1100 based. Many Fiat 1100 were entered in the Mille Miglia. 1956 alone saw over 100 of this model entered. 1100 production continued until it was replaced by the Fiat 128 in 1969.
For 1963 Fiat added an 1100 'Special' and a new 1100D sedan. The 1100D had a larger 1221cc engine, as in the 1200 series, but with no horsepower increase over the smaller power-plant. The 1100D had a re-styled rectangular grille with a prominent rectangular Fiat emblem located at the upper center. Inside were bucket seats, the front doors were now front-hinged, and had full-length body-side chrome stripes.
The gas cap could now be found in the left rear fender.

This sedan was purchased by Martin Swig in 1994 from Portland, Oregon from Randolph Copenhaver, showing approximately 19,000 miles at the time. Today the car shows just over 20,250 original miles and has all its original equipment including the well-preserved blue upholstery.
It has a column-shifted four-speed manual transmission and an 1089cc overhead valve 4-cylinder engine breathing through a Single Weber carburetor.By Daniel Vaughan | Dec 2013
