The 6C 2500 range of Alfa Romeos debuted in 1939, Vittorio Jano's third series of six-cylinder Alfa Romeos. It was the company's last pre-war and first post-war model. With fewer than 2,000 produced, including 63 6C 2500SS 2-seat short wheelbase cabriolets, the 6C 2500 range of Alfa Romeos built from 1947 to 1952 became the last generation of truly great handcrafted Alfa Romeos. These were the final Alfas built with separate frames and bodies and the marque's last coach-built automobiles. The DOHC six-cylinder engine was essentially an evolution of the prewar 6C 2500, producing 110hp in triple-carb Super Sport trim.
Chassis Number 915758
This example was constructed in 1950 and was sold that year to Signor Silvio Carlo Tricerri of Corana, Lombardy, Italy. By the end of the decade, the car had found its way to Southern California, where it passed through several owners. During that time, the engine was rebuilt, and it was converted to left-hand drive. In 1989, the car was placed into storage in the San Francisco Bay Area until it was purchased in May of 2009 by Lawrence Klein.
The car has been treated to a restoration. In 2012 it won First in Class and the Honorary Judges Trophy at the Palo Alto Concours. It won the Vitesse Elegance Award and Second in Class at the Pebble Beach Concours, and First in Class and recipient of the Most Elegant Post-War Closed Car trophy at the Hillsborough Concours.
The car is finished in dark green with a pebble grain, tan leather interior. There is an original Aster multiband shortwave radio with a 'Vaticano' dial setting and Lucite fascia, a floor-mounted gear lever, and a three-spoke, engraved aluminum steering wheel with abachi wood trim. Silver-plated chain door pulls, and rear window roll-up curtains are also nice finishing touches. The car rides on Dunlop Fort tires.By Daniel Vaughan | Nov 2017
