1987 Ferrari Testarossa Navigation
The night before the opening of the 1984 Paris Motor Show, Ferrari introduced their Testarossa at the famed Lido nightclub on the Champs Elysees. The design was courtesy of Pininfarina and served as a replacement to the Berlinetta Boxer. The design was dramatic, angular and aggressive. The most notable visual feature was its long side-strakes that run along the doors and rear three-quarter panels. These 'cheese graters' were functional, drawing air into the relocated dual rear-mounted radiators to keep both the engine and cabin from overheating.
In comparison to the 512 BB, the Testarossa was designed to address the issues of a lack of luggage space and uncomfortable cabin heat. It was bigger than its predecessor and its overall width was increased by nearly half-a-foot, while the wheelbase grew by 2.5 inches. It had a menacing stance on the road and provided its occupants with more space for their belongings.
The horsepower and breathability was improved, over the 512BB, by redesigning the powertrain and adding four valves per cylinder. The addition of a new clutch helped to manage power at the rear wheels. Top speed was in the neighborhood of 180 mph and it could race from zero-to-sixty in just over five seconds.
This example has just under 10,000 miles on the odometer. It is finished in Rosso Corsa over tan leather interior.By Daniel Vaughan | Jan 2014
