Sold for $108,900 at 2014 Bonhams - The Scottsdale Auction.
The Studebaker Brothers were wagon makers since the middle of the 195h Century. Located in South Bend, Indiana, they were active in commercial vehicle manufacture long before the introduction of the 'horseless carriage.' Their work earned them a fortune which helped in funding their automotive endeavors - an 'electric' designed by Thomas Alva Edison - in 1902. In late 1903, they built their first gasoline-powered motor car. Their reputation would continue to grow throughout the 1920s with a succession of rugged six-cylinder models. By 1928, the company had introduced an eight.

The 1931 Series 80 President was given styling by Raymond Dietrich who was working as a design consultant for the model. The cars gained a vee-shaped radiator and matched vee-dip on the front bumper, oval shaped headlights and fender lamps. Mechanical features included free-wheeling, ball bearing spring shackles, carburetor intake silencer, ignition lock and a variety of other improvements.

In 1931, a nearly-stock President example won the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. Another example led the Indy 500 before slipping on an oil spill. Around 11 new records were achieved at the Muroc Dry Lake including a flying mile at 91.79mph and averages of 90.35mph for the 100 mile and 1 hour records.

Chassis no. 7033484
This example was termed the 'Four Seasons' Roadster, offering the versatility and sporting connotation of an open two seater. Factory options include front bumper, whitewall tires, dual side-mounts with covers, Trippe driving lights, trunk rack and trunk.

The early history of the car is not known; between 1958 and 1983, the car is known to have lived in single ownership in Lancaster, Ohio. It was later sold to Whitney Kerr of Kansas City, Missouri. Shortly after purchasing the car, Mr. Kerr treated it to a total frame-off rebuild at a cost approaching $60,000. Upon completion, it was shown at several CCCA events, including a 98.5 at a Grand Classic meet.

The current owners acquired the car in 1997.
