1962 Alfa Romeo 2000 Roadster

The Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider averaged less than 1,000 units annually, with only 3,443 examples being built between 1958 and 1962. The 2000, also known as the 2-Liter, was designed for long-distance touring while in the lap of luxury. The Spider, or Roadster, was given an uprated Sprint engine that had an 8.5:1 compression ratio and dual carburetors, giving 115 horsepower at 5900 RPM.

This example was sold new in California and has the widely spaced hood intakes and double chrome side stripes that are usually associated with the European market. The car has gauges in English measurements, with a Blaupunkt radio that has European markings and Italian wording on some of the secondary controls. The Solex 44 PHH carburetors have been replaced with Weber carburetors, and the original airbox has been retained in case it ever needs to be re-installed.

Prior to its current ownership, the car was in the care of Ken Shaff, a co-founder of the California Mille rally. The new owner embarked on a comprehensive refurbishment of its older restoration.

The car is powered by a 1975cc dual overhead cam engine offering 115 horsepower. There is a five-speed transmission with synchromesh and four-wheel hydraulic Alfin drum brakes.
