1983 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 SUV

Importation of the short-wheelbase FJ40 to the United States began in 1960 and continued through 1938, with supplementary models including the FJ45 four-door, pickup, and wagon variants imported from 1963 to 1967. The FJ55 utility wagon was imported from 1968 to 1979. During its production run, few changes were made. In 1974, it was given a four-speed transmission and an increase in engine displacement and output to 4.2-liters and 135 HP for 1975.

This Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser is one of only an estimated 300 examples imported to the United States for the final year in 1983. It was acquired by the current owner in 2005 and then treated to a restoration. Many of the mechanical components were rebuilt or replaced. The front and rear bumperettes were replaced, a Warn winch was installed, and BFGoodrich tires were fitted. The interior was restored and a new headliner and new seat covers.

The car is powered by an overhead valve six-cylinder engine offering 135 horsepower. There is a four-speed manual transmission, 2-speed transfer case, and 4-wheel drive.
