The Porsche 911 production series has remained in production for over half-a-century. The seventh generation of the 911 remains as coveted as it ever was, showcasing the evolution of a design that began over 50 years ago.
At the September 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show, Porsche introduced its 901 prototype. It would, however, be towards the end of 1964 before Porsche was ready to put the new model into production at Zuffenhausen. The name, however, need to be changed as Peugeot owned the rights to car models using three digits and a zero in the middle. Thus, the 911 was born.
This particular Porsche 911 was built as a 1965 model year car and completed at the Zuffenhausen Porsche works on September 2nd of 1965. The car was finished in the same color combination that it wears today, 6606 Irish Green over a beige leatherette interior with the 901 5-speed manual transaxle. The car was given the American-spec lights and lenses, and sent to the United States.
In 1971, the car was in the care of winemaker Mr. Kurt Kalb of Pennsylvania; Mr. Kalb may have been the vehicle's original owner. Mr. Kalb is believed to have sold the 911 to its next long-term owner, Dr. Brody in the late 1970s. By the mid-1980's, the car had been parked in a barn near Spring City, Pennsylvania, and that is where it would sit until 2012.
The present owner discovered the car in the barn. It is an original car with a matching numbers engine and correct date-coded wheels with hubcaps still in place. It has the original paint in the doorjambs and compartments, and the original chrome and bright work is still in place. The interior is nearly completely original, from seat and panel upholstery, to headliner, wooden dash veneer, steering wheel and gauges.By Daniel Vaughan | Apr 2017
