1976 Porsche 911 Coupe

From its introduction as a 1963 model through today, Porsche's 911 has been a wonderful four-seater spots car equally at home on the German Autobahn as it is a twisting race course. The first 911 cost $5,900, produced 148 horsepower from its horizontally opposed, air-cooled, six-cylinder engine, and could go from zero-to-sixty miles per hour in 9.0 seconds. Top speed was a respectable 132 mph.

The rear-engine car's sleek looks and road manners won many loyal followers, but nothing sealed the 911's status as a four-wheeled fantasy like the U.S. debut in 1976 of the 911 Turbo, aka the '930' or simply 'Turbo.' Selling for $25,850, its turbocharged flat-six cranked out 234 horsepower, delivering a 4.9-second zero-to-sixty time and 153 mph top speed. The 930 model's wide rear wheels and fenders and 'whale tail' spoiler (which serves to channel air into the rear-mounted engine) created an iconic look that is stylish to this day. It was Porsche's effort to develop a 911 variant for the exotic car market that could directly compete with vehicles from Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Maserati.

With its special-order Emerald Green paint and special color-keyed gold wheels, this two-owner, 67,000 mile example is a rare gem. Power is from a 3.0 liter, 260 horsepower turbocharged flat-six engine mated to a 4-speed gearbox.
