1956 Chevrolet Corvette SR Navigation
Six production cars were built at St. Louis to satisfy Sebring race requirements for its 1956 effort. Two are known to still exist today. These cars were equipped with eleven SR (Special Racing) options, including heavy-duty suspension, cerametallic brake shoes and special drums and backing plates, Halibrand magnesium quick change wheels, Firestone Super Sport 170 tires plus the Duntov camshaft. First race optioned Corvettes produced and sold. First land speed car for Bruce Geisler, holder of 99 Bonneville records and 2003 NHRA Hot Rod Reunion Hall of Famer.
The car won 25 consecutive drag race meets in 1957 at Lions, San Gabriel, Pomona, Colton and Kahuku, Hawaii. The car set a speed record at El Mirage Dry lake on September 22, 1957, reaching 126.93 mph. Used to bring Betty Skelton into the Hall of Fame at the National Corvette Museum.
