1955 Arnolt-Bristol Bolide Roadster

  • Designed by Bertone
  • Chassis Number: 404/X/3050
  • Engine Number: BS1/MKII/ 255
Arnolt Bristol Bolides were designed to be stripped-down competitive weekend racers which could be driven to the track, raced, and then driven home. This car is no exception and is believed to be the first privateered Bolide. It was initially delivered to 'Gentleman' Tom Payne of Ypsilanti, Michigan, who went on to fame as a member of the Shelby American Race Team. In the late 1960s, it was converted back to a street car with the addition of a taller windshield and weather equipment, its current configuration, and was featured in Automobile Quarterly. In the 1980s the car returned to the race track and competed in vintage races throughout the northeast. In October 2012 a two-year sympathetic restoration back to its street configuration was completed.
