1934 Packard 1106 Twelve Runabout Speedster

Until WWII most of the prestige automakers would readily supply only a running chassis which wealthy buyers would then have fitted with custom bodywork.

The Model 1106 has a 160 horsepower 445 cubic-inch engine with Stromberg downdraft carburetion, three-speed synchromesh transmission, and four-wheel adjustable vacuum-assisted brakes riding on a 135-inch wheelbase. Restorer, Fran Roxas, had always wanted to own a Runabout Speedster, but with none available for sale he decided to embark upon what would prove to be one of the most arduous undertakings in coach building - designing and constructing an exact duplicate of the original car. He even borrowed an original speedster to support the project. Fran commented on the project: 'Normally if you build a new body for a classic era car, you only have to build the body itself, since you're going to use the original fenders, running boards, hoods, and all the little pieces. When we built the two runabout speedsters we had to fabricate literally everything.' In true Fran Roxas fashion, the size, shapes, profiles, and even the method of construction were identical.

A conservative car with finely tailored lines, elegant appointments, a refined chassis, and a whisper-quiet engine, Packard twelve-cylinder vehicles were among the signature cars of the classic era.
