1968 BMW 2000 Navigation
The BMW 2000 CS was the successor of the V-8 3200 CS and assumed the role of the company's image leader for 1965. Wearing a design penned by Wilhelm Hofmeister and based upon BMW's four-cylinder 'Neue Klasse' sedans, the 2000 CS was a visual tour-de-force. Under the bonnet was a 1990cc development of BMW's M10 single overhead cam 'four' and fitted with twin Solex carburetors. Disc brakes were in the front and a fully independent suspension system offered responsive and sporting handling characteristics. Introduced prior to the 2000 sedan, the 2000 CS body shell was built by Karmann at Osnabruck, Germany with production continuing through 1969.
This 1968 BMW 2000 CS has a documented history dating to early 1976 when the vehicle was registered in Milan to Meroni Ugo Teresio. Jan-Olof Ekelin of Sweden purchased the car in 1983 and treated it to a concours-quality restoration in the late 1980s. In 1988, the car received three Second Place awards in BMW Club Sweden shows. In the Original Class, the car earned 22 votes, losing by just one vote. It was also Second in the Most Beautiful Class and placed Second to the Best in Show entry. It was awarded First Place in the Veteran Class and a Second in the Coupe Class at the Club's 1990 Concours d'Elegance held at Sweden's Knutstorp racing circuit.
Mr. Ekelin sold the BMW in the summer of 1999 to an American collection where it remained for over 14 years.By Daniel Vaughan | Apr 2014
