1959 Austin-Healey 3000 MK I Navigation
The shadow of the white Healey fell across every Corvette which opposed it as 28-year-old Grant Clark of Georgetown, Ontario sped on his way to the Canadian Racing drivers Association championship in 1960 which he earned with five victories in the five championship races. In all, during 1960, Grand raced the car 17 times, failing to finish four times and securing seven overall victories and numerous class wins on the other occasions.
This 1957 BN7 was modified by the Donald Healey Competition Division, overseen by Geoff Healey, in preparation for the 1960 Canadian race series, to showcase the release of the new Austin Healey 3000 to North America. The body was removed and replaced with an all Alloy body and bumpers and some chrome accents were deleted. Disc brakes were fitted to all four tires, a hoop roll bar was built and an aluminum fuel tank was fabricated. The engine was race-prepared and fitted with a Rudd Speed Tri-Carb manifold, Vertex ignition, and racing side exhaust. The car was primarily campaigned by Grant Clark, where it won all 5 point events in which it was entered.
After winning the Canadian Championship, CAN171 went on display in the corporate lobby of co-sponsor Imperial Tobacco for about 15 years before passing to private collectors. During those early years, it was occasionally exercised by Stirling Moss for race schools and demonstrations.
