The Porsche 2.7 RS was a homologation special, as Porsche needed to build 500 road-going examples to qualify the new car for Group 4 GT racing. The RS was a modified variant of the 2.4-liter 911 S. The engine had an increased displacement, used various weight saving measures, an upgraded suspension, and fitted with aerodynamic aids. Zero-to-sixty took under six seconds and top speed was achieved at 50 mph.
In total, just 1,580 RS models were built, and just 240 of those were the race-oriented M47 Sport or Lightweight models.
This example is a Carrera 2.7 RS Lightweight that was constructed in March of 1973. It is a seconds-series example and is the 119th of just 240 such examples. It is finished in Grand Prix White (2201) with blue wheels and accents, Black (11) leatherette interior, and lightweight bucket seats. The early history of this car is not known. It was eventually imported to the United States and was featured in the Blackhawk Automotive Museum of Danville, California. Sometime later, it was sold to a private California collector, then ownership passed to Canepa Design.
