1976 Lamborghini Countach LP400 Navigation
Countach, a name originated from the Piedmontese dialect as an expression of awe (usually reserved for seeing an attractive woman) was aptly applied to this Bertone designed supercar. When it was introduced in the 1971 Geneva Motor Show, it created quite the stir, and seeing this beautiful example in a stunning silver over a red interior, it is easy to understand why. It was so iconic in its design, it became the standard for bedroom wall poster cars for all boys with oil in their veins. Now, with the fundamental design over 40 years old, it still strikes a strong emotional chord with many who see it today.
Of course, one of the most recognizable styling points of the Countach was its scissor doors. This was partially driven by the height and width of the sills created by the tubular spaceframe, but the styling touch was unmistakable and carried through to subsequent models.
The Countach LP400 was fitted with a 4 liter V12 engine producing 370hp. Unlike the Muira's transverse mounting, the Countach longitudinally mounted the engine with the output shaft pointed toward the cabin. It is interesting to note that while the engine got bigger and generally more powerful with later models, this first generation turned out to be the fastest. This was because it was equipped with quite narrow tires for the time, resulting lower drag compared to later models, and therefore it could achieve a top speed of 193 mph. Additionally, the car accelerates from 0-60 mph in just 5.4s. By the end of the production run of this first generation model which ended in 1978, a total of 158 cars had been built.
