When Dodge realized that Ford and Mercury had a distinct advantage when it came to aerodynamics and winning races, it had to think fast. After experimenting with the Charger 500, it knew much more had to be done.
Dodge created what may be the most outrageous American production car ever built; the Dodge Daytona. With a wildly sloping nose and a mile-high rear wing, it not only took Nascar by surprise, but blew away dealers and the public.
Offered with either the standard 375-hp, 440-cubic inch 4-barrel wedge V8 or the monster 425 -hp, 426 Hemi engine, Dodge quickly returned to dominance, setting records that include Nascars first run of over 200 mph. This 85 Bright Blue Metallic Daytona is unique in many ways. After a tip from a friend, the current owner discovered it in 1982, sitting neglected in an impound lot. After several years, it was decided to bring this rare example back to its original glory by doing a full Concours restoration to original equipment standards. The results have netted several national awards including a coveted Concours Gold award at the prestigious Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Chicago.
Featuring the 440-4 barrel V8 engine backed by a column-shifted Torqueflite automatic transmission, this 1969 Dodge Daytona represents what a manufacturer can do when it decides to win races!
