1961 Ferrari 250 TRI61 Spyder

For 1961, the Ferrari 250 TR cars were drastically updated and became referred to as TRI61s. They were given a new space-frame chassis that reduced weight while increasing structural rigidity. This car (chassis number 0792TR) has won Sebring twice, in 1961 with Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien and in 1962 with Jo Bonnier and Lucien Bianchi. It ran at Le Mans in 1961 with the Rodriguez brothers, Pedro and Ricardo, driving. After Le Mans it was driven by Graham Hill in the Nassau Trophy, placing fifth. The TRI61s secured the overall Manufacturers' Championship for Ferrari in 1961. After another Le Mans with no finish in 1962 and a third at Brands Hatch driven by Jo Bonnier, the car was re-bodied with a redesigned spoiler and new vents by the Ferrari factory. It led a quiet retirement until 1985 when, bought by Ralph Lauren, it was restored the following year by Graypaul Motors. It has been shown at various concours since and at the Boston Fine Arts Museum in 2005.
