1927 Mercedes-Benz 630K Convertible

One year after Benz und Cie. and Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft merged to become Daimler-Benz AG, they produced the Model K based upon the Type 630 Mercedes. The Model K was principally the work of Daimler's chief engineer, Dr. Ferdinand Porsche. Model Ks were bodied by Europe's leading coachbuilders, including Hibbard & Darrin in Paris. Hibbard & Darrin built two or three Sport Cabriolets on the Model 630K chassis, and their Sport Cabriolet's trademark V windshield appears on this convertible (chassis number 38182). This car was originally shipped from Paris to New York and sold for $12,000. In 1931 it was purchased by a military officer attached to the New York City Veteran's Hospital, who drove it for 21 years. In failing mechanical condition, it was placed in storage for over two decades. The current owner commissioned a three-year restoration.
