1936 Horch Model 853 Sport Cabriolet

With an eight-cylinder engine producing 105 horsepower, the automobile had a stately top speed of 81 mph. The chassis is almost over-engineered, and the fit and finish of the bodywork and attention to every detail are magnificent. This cabriolet was one of 50 similar cars purchased by the German government to serve as staff cars for general officers. At the war's end, US forces confiscated this car from a German general. A US Army number was painted on the hood but is now partially obscured by a thin coat of paint. The cabriolet made its way to the United States in the early 1950s and was eventually purchased by a museum in St. Louis, Missouri. The Horch was driven minimally at that point and was then put in storage in a garage in South Dakota in 1968.
