1911 Maxwell Model I Navigation
The Maxwell Company was launched in 1905 by two automotive pioneers, entrepreneur Benjamin Briscoe and engineer Jonathan Maxwell - with financial assistance from J.P. Morgan. The first factory was in Tarrytown, N.Y., and rapidly expanded. By 1910, more than 20,000 Maxwells were sold, which placed Maxwell third in U.S. sales, behind Ford and Buick.
The Maxwell slogan was unique: 'Perfectly Simple. Simply Perfect.'
The Model I was powered by a four-cylinder T-head motor that developed 25 horsepower. It was built on a 104-inch wheelbase chassis. Three body styles were available in the Model I series - a runabout, surrey, and touring car.
This Maxwell has been regularly driven on vintage automobile tours.
