Pierce-Arrow motorcars were introduced in 1901 and in a short time, the company had achieved what would be a lasting reputation as a manufacturer of top-of-the-line motorcars. The company's offices and manufacturing facilities were located in Buffalo, New York.
The Model 36 was offered for the last time in 1928. It was powered by a large, six-cylinder, 24-valve, 414 cubic-inch T-head motor that developed 100 horsepower. The Model 36 was built on a 138-inch wheelbase chassis that featured vacuum-assisted four-wheel mechanical brakes.
This seven-passenger touring car was sold new in San Francisco for about $5,875 in 1928. Styling was conservative (a trademark of the company) and is finished in correct colors - chicle body, seal brown belting and moldings with black fenders and top, and black leather interior. The car was originally delivered to a wealthy family in New Jersey who retained it for two years and then put it into storage for another 14. Dr. Miller purchased the car in 1944, selling it the following year to William Wann, a student at the Princeton Theological Seminary. After his graduation, he drove it to California. He kept the car until 1973 during which time the car acquired 117,000 miles. In 1973, it was sold by bid to George Wheeler of San Diego, CA. He had the car restored to show-quality standards. It remained in his care until 1998 when it was purchased by Patrick Craig, of Stockton, California. Mr. Craig began his own comprehensive body-off restoration. The work was completed in 2002.
