1927 Buick Master Six DeLuxe Sport Roadster

  • Chassis Number: 1682253
For 1927, Buick offered the Standard and Master Six models, both sharing many of the same body styles. The Standard Six had an overhead valve six-cylinder engine displacing 207 cubic-inches while the Master Six had a 274 cubic-inch unit. The Standard Six rested on a 114.5 inch wheelbase while the Master Six rested on either a 120- or 128-inch platform.

Buick models were stylish and had an enviable market reputation for reliability and durability. During the 1920s, competition continued to increase, and Buick responded by updating its styling during a five-year cycle, which began in 1924. The last of the four-cylinder Buicks were retired in 1925, and for 1926, both the Standard and Master models were given six-cylinder power.

Buick gave the 1926 models a smoother radiator shell, double belt moldings, aluminum hub and gas caps, and a straight tie-rod that connected both headlamps. The 1927 models would continue with very few changes. Engineering advancements included a stronger, redesigned clutch and one-piece brake linings, as well as a strengthened chassis and drivetrain. Servicing became easier with improved air, fuel, and oil filters, Zerk-type grease fittings, and new dual-beam headlamps that were mounted within interchangeable shells.

Refinements followed for 1927, with the addition of crankcase ventilation and new engine mounts, as well as a new counterbalanced crankshaft and a torsional balancer. Buyers approved of the mechanical changes and the styling updates, with sales exceeding 250,000 units.

This particular Master Six Roadster was reportedly originally sold to a buyer in Oyster Bay, New York. The car has a factory rumble seat, whitewall tires, artillery wheels, and golf bag door.

The car has received only regular maintenance and recent fresh cosmetics, including a repaint in the original factory livery of Signal Yellow and green, with Signal Red striping. The tan Haartz canvas top has been re-trimmed, and there is a matching boot and rear-mounted spare tire cover. The interior is leather and appears to be original, in a maroon shade, and the driver's door panel serves as a tool compartment, as was intended by Buick. The rumble seat has armrests and ample space for two adults or three children.
