1948 Mercury Series 89M Navigation
A total of 1,889 Mercury 4-door 'suburban' station wagons were built based on the Ford bodyshell each with a 239.4 cubic-inch V8 L-head engine making 100 horsepower at 3800 RPM. A three-speed manual was the only transmission. With a quoted weight of 3,570 lbs, performance was spirited and the design was stylish. Priced at $2,207 compared with the 4-door sedan at $1,660 its price per seat (8 passengers) was comparable. The Sportsman Convertible also had wooden panels but only 205 units found a buyer.
