It is believed that 411 DB2 Aston Martins were produced from early 1950 through 1953, 102 of which were (likely) Drop Head Coupes. The car was launched in April at the New York Auto Show and was an instant success. The second and third production cars went straight to LeMans. Briggs Cunningham bought the 21st car and went to Sebring. Racetrack success came thick and fast for the Lagonda-based, W.O. Bentley-designed 2.6-liter, 6-cylinder with 125 horsepower in Vantage spec. The car's top speed was about 115 mph.
Laurence John Cadbury - member of the Cadbury dynasty, England's first 'chocolate' family, the business of which was founded in 1824 by grandfather John Cadbury, a staunch Quaker - bought this lovely DB2 new in 1953 and may have owned it through 1959. Laurence was a founding member of AMOC, the Aston martin Owners Club, back in 1935. Aston Martin made perhaps only 98 Drophead Coupes out of a total of 411 DB2s between 1950 and 1951. In 1962 this car was equipped with a Vantage-spec 2.6-liter, 125 horsepower, DOHC straight 6-cylinder, with triple SU carburetors.
This example is finished in dark green with painted pillar-box red wire wheels (an Aston signature for this car) and a tan interior.
