1956 Ford Thunderbird Navigation
The 1956 Thunderbird was the middle year of the first series (1955-1957) and is instantly recognizable by the one-year-only 'continental-style' spare tire installed to the rear of the trunk. The T-Bird was Ford's response to the Corvette but was billed as a 'personal luxury car' even though it has the necessary performance from Ford's familiar (by then enlarged) 312 cubic-inch Y-block V8 with 215 horsepower or more depending on the 'performance package' installed. (The very first Corvettes were only available with 6-cylinder engines.) Sales of the early Thunderbirds exceeded those of the Corvette. Thereafter, the Corvette got faster to the Thunderbird's increased luxury, and the world changed.
