Iconic designer Alec Issigonis was the creator of the Morris Minor. Over 1.4 million units were built between 1948 and 1972. Britain's Woodie is not a term used in England, and estate is used typically more frequently than station wagon, however Morris called theirs the Traveler. By 1959 the Minor was labeled a 1000 (actually using a 948cc version of the BMC A-Series 4-cylinder engine with 37 horsepower) and by 1962 1098cc and thus by then quite spritely with a quoted 77 mph from 48 horsepower. (Balanced against an average 38 miles per gallon.) The well-loved Minor was superseded by the 1100 and the Mini together.
