The last version of the 356, the C, was produced between 1963 and late 1965, and early 1966. Some 16,678 were built. The body designed for the 'new look' T6 model, first introduced in 1961, was carried through to the end of the series without the C nomenclature having specific recognition by Porsche until disc brakes were slated in model year 1964. After Porsche absorbed Reutter in March of 1964, the 356C was no longer fitted with the coachbuilder's emblem on the fender. A cabriolet 356 was available throughout the life of the 356, yet it took nearly 20 years of 911 before something similar appeared.
