1966 Ferrari 330 GT Navigation
Chassis number 8947 GT was completed in September 1966. It was shipped to Luigi Chinetti Motors in New York City in late 1966. The car left the factory in Oro Chiaro over a Rosso leather interior and was equipped with a five-speed manual transmission, power windows, and power steering. The car was then sent to Ron Tonkin Grand Turismo in Portland, Oregon, where it was sold to its first private owner. In 1983, it was purchased by Lawrence James Peterson of San Francisco, CA, from a gentleman residing in Sacramento. The car remained in Peterson's care for the next six years, before entering the care of its next owner in 1989. Later that year, the car was painted in its current shade of black. It then traveled to its next owner in Connecticut, before it was acquired by its present owner in Maryland. It was purchased in 1996.
The original spare Borrani wire wheel, dated August 1966, still resides in the trunk. It has an eight-track player, which was added by a previous owner in period. The odometer shows less than 52,000 miles.
The 3,967cc single overhead camshaft V12 engine uses three Weber Twin-Choke carburetors and delivers 300 horsepower at 6,600 RPM. There is a five-speed manual gearbox and four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes. In the front is an independent suspension with wishbones and coil springs while the rear uses a live axle setup with semi-elliptical leaf springs.
Since entering new ownership in 2014, the car was sent to Carrozzeria Zanasi of Maranello to restore it back to its factory appearance and specification. The work was completed in 2017. The engine was removed and rebuilt, the colors were returned to the factory-specified Oro Chiaro over Rosso Connolly leather upholstery, and Borrani wire wheels provide the finishing touch.
The car made a June 2019 debut at the FCA North East Region Concorso Ferrari in West Hartford, Connecticut (Best in Show), and in April 2021 at the Celebration Exotic Car Festival in Florida (Best in Class). The car has been certified by Ferrari Classiche, documented by its Red Book.By Daniel Vaughan | Oct 2014
