1975 Porsche 911 Coupe

Porsche reserved the 'Carrera' name for their extra-high performance cars, recalling the company's 1953 win in the mythical Mexican road race. The name first appeared on a new four-cam 356 in 1955 and re-appeared in 1972, but originally as a homologation special for Group 4 racing. Just 500 examples were built that first year, with each example sold within a week after its appearance at the Paris Auto Show in October of 1972. They were distinguished by flared rear fenders, rear ducktail spoiler and prominent body side graphics. U.S. bumper regulations forced a redesign for 1974, but designer Tony Lapine handled the challenge with aplomb, in the process finalizing the transformation from litheness to the more muscular look embodied in this 1975 Carrera coupe. They quickly produced enough Carreras to qualify for Group 3 competition. Consequently, just 395 U.S.-specification coupes were built 1975, making them very rare.

This example is a documented 43,007 original mile example. It is a later-production Carrera powered by a 2.7-liter engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox. It has a wide 'whaletail' spoiler which was introduced to replace the earlier ducktail units. The car is finished in Grand Prix White with Black Carrera graphics and a black leather interior. It has rare factory air conditioning and sunroof.
