1969 Aston Martin DB6 Navigation
Aston Martin introduced the DB6 in October 1965 at the London Motor Show and it served as the successor to the D5. Many consider the car to be one of the finest grand tourers ever produced. They came equipped with a four-liter, twin-cam, inline six-cylinder engine with an aluminum alloy block, seven main bearings, and a deep-breathing cross-flow head. The car could carry four adults comfortably and had a 140-mph top speed. They had a 101.5-inch wheelbase and a 22-gallon fuel tank. Armstrong Selectaride rear shock absorbers could be adjusted from the driver's seat, compensating for the weight of the rear-seat passengers.
The exterior styling of the DB6 had a familiar resembled to the DB5 due to the aerodynamic, competition-style covered headlights. The DB6 was given a taller roofline and a less steeply raked windshield. In the back was a squared-off Kammback tail with an upswept spoiler lip which helped reduce rear-lift while also improving high-speed handling. The hood had a broad air scoop and a pair of air vents on the front fenders.
This Aston Martin DB6 was completed on August 14, 1969. It was purchased new by Production Pattern & Engineering Co. Ltd., of Blyth Road, Hayes, Middlesex. The body was finished in Velvet Green, with matching Connolly leather and Sherwood Bronze carpeting. The car was fitted with many 'Non-Standard Equipment' including chrome road wheels, a heated rear window, power-assisted steering, front seat belts, three-ear hubcaps, and a power-operated aerial. Currently, the car has a 'sliding roof' which was not part of its original build sheet. The Webasto Everflex sunroof presently installed is of the factory type and has been present on the car for many years.
The car was eventually exported to the United States and professionally converted to its present left-hand-drive configuration. It is believed to have been repainted at some point, though the interior is of the original Connolly leather. The dual overhead cam six-cylinder has triple SU side-draft carburetors and offers 282 horsepower. There is a three-speed Borg-Warner automatic transmission and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes.By Daniel Vaughan | Jan 2015
