In American, the public's off-road vehicle of choice was the Jeep and in the United Kingdom, that honor fell to Land Rover. Toyota entered the market in 1960 was their FJ40 Land Cruiser hoping to compete in the all-terrain segment. Their off-road vehicle was affordable, versatile and reliable, and quickly proved to be a suitable alternative to its western rivals.
This particular example is a 1966 Toyota FJ40 whose current caretaker uses it as a regular driver through the streets of Venice Beach, California. It has been given a restoration and was finished in the period-correct color combination of a Spring Green exterior and Salmon interior.
The vehicle is fitted with a three-speed manual transmission and a heater, and currently rides on Hercules Trail Digger M/T tires. The engine is an overhead-valve six-cylinder unit displacing 235 cubic-inches and offering 125 horsepower.
