1969 Porsche 911T Navigation
The 1969 Porsche 911, the first major change to the series, was given a stretched wheelbase of 2.4 inches. The fenders were flared to make additional room for larger wheels and tires, and the interior heating and cooling system was improved. The 911T offered 110 horsepower while the 911 E delivered 140-brake horsepower. Those customers seeking more could purchase the 911 S which had 170 brake horsepower.
The Porsche 911 T was a lower-priced alternative that had a magnesium-cased, cast-iron cylindered engine with Weber 40 IDTP3C carburetors. The E and S models used Bosch mechanical fuel injection. In total, just 3,561 examples of the Porsche 911 T Coupes were produced by the Karmann company at Osnabrück.
This particular B-Series 911 T example was completed on April 14th of 1969. It left the factory wearing Polo Red paint (code 6802) and was one of nine standard colors offered. Inside, the car had a black leatherette interior. The car came equipped with several popular factory options, including a Type 901 five-speed transmission, the five-gauge instrument package from the more expensive 911 S, front and rear bumperettes, a Becker Europa radio, and a left-side antenna.
It is believed that this car was originally sold to Phoenix, Arizona where it would spend most of its life. The original owner is believed to have retained the car for fifteen years before being purchased by another Phoenix resident, Jack Perry, on October 19th of 1984. At the time, the car had just 11,625 miles on its odometer. It remained in Arizona until being sold to Mr. Walter Hensch, of Massillon, Ohio, with 20,645 miles recorded. While in Mr. Hensch's care, the car was treated to a professional mechanical overhaul in September of 2009. The work totaled more than $10,000. On May 13, 2012, the car was sold to Mr. Sid Griffon, of Springfield, Missouri, with 23,105 miles on its odometer. Mr. Griffin had the car's exterior restored to its original condition, which included a full repaint in its original Polo Red.
The current owner acquired the car from Mr. Griffin on March 24, 2014, at which point it had been driven only 23,780 miles. The new owner had the interior re-upholstered.
Currently, the car rides on a set of new Pirelli tires on forged alloy Fuchs 'Windmill' wheels, a tool kit and jack, and manuals. Currently, the odometer shows 23,696 miles, which is believed to be original and correct.By Daniel Vaughan | Feb 2015
