1937 Chevrolet Master Deluxe Series GA Sport Coupe

By the early 1920s, Chevrolet was finding it very difficult to compete with the Model T, as Ford dropped their prices annually while Chevrolet was forced to increase theirs steadily. As a result, Chevrolet re-positioned itself as a 'middle-market' manufacturer and offered a higher degree of refinement that was not offered on the Ford product line. In 1929, Chevrolet introduced a new range powered by the 'Stovebolt' overhead-valve six, which proved popular and helped GM out-sell Ford for most of the 1930s.

This example is a 1937 Chevrolet Master Deluxe Sport Coupe. It is powered by a 216 cubic-inch overhead valve inline 6-cylinder engine fitted with a single Carter downdraft carburetor. There is a three-speed manual transmission and four-wheel drum brakes. The trim tag specifies this vehicle as originally finished in Swan Gray with Carteret Red. It is well optioned with black fenders and headlights, rare fender markers, Deluxe radio with both under-dash and roof-mounted speaker, and a 'The New 1937 Chevrolet' neon insert for the rear window made by Walker & Company. The car was a 'Demonstrator' model, which means it left the factory well-equipped and prominently placed in dealerships to showcase the company's product.

The car has been treated to a restoration and finished in its unique two-tone paint job. Recently, it won Best of Show wins at the 2009 and 2011 Vintage Chevrolet Club meets as well as a national first prize for best 6-cylinder Chevy from the same club.
