This vehicle is one of just eleven 1971 914/6 GTs built by the Porsche factory and wore the Brumos Porsche 'famous 59'. The first race it won was at Virginia International Raceway on April 18, 1971, with Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood at the wheel. They went on to win two more races overall (Bridgehampton and Summit Point), five class victories and a 29th overall at Daytona. They were the IMSA GT Champions in 1971.

It was raced just once in the renamed IMSA Camel GT Championship during 1972 and was then sold to a Mexican racing team. It was discovered in Mexico in 1988 and restored to period-correct racing condition in just 59 days in Brumos' original race shop at 1444 North Main St in Jacksonville, FL. The first outing after restoration in 1988 was at West Palm Beach where Hurley piloted it to its first vintage win. Hurley and Bob Snodgrass teamed up to win two CARE Vintage Championships. Today the car is used primarily for exhibition events and shows.
