1968 Jaguar XKE E-Type Navigation
The Jaguar E-Type in 3.8-liter form was introduced in 1961. It owed much of its design to the racing D-Type and to aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer. It had a monoque tub forming the main structure while a tubular space frame extended forwards to support the engine.
The first significant up-grade occurred in October 1964 with the launch of the 4.2-liter version, Lockheed brake servo, and a more user-friendly gearbox with synchromesh on first gear. The car's exterior appearance remained mostly unchanged; the most visual distinction was its '4.2' badging.
This particular example is a numbers matching open headlight, late Series 1 model. It was built on March 29th of 1968 and left the Browns Lane factory in Coventry nearly a month later on April 24th. At that time, it was finished in Ascot Fawn over Beige leather with a black soft top. The car was originally imported through Jaguar Cars of New York. By the late 1990s, it had been given a complete restoration along with a color change to its current Old English White over Black leather.
The car has its original tool roll, jack, and spare. The engine is a 4235cc dual overhead cam six-cylinder unit fitted with 3 SU carburetors and offering 265 horsepower. There is a 4-speed manual transmission and 4-wheel disc brakes.By Daniel Vaughan | Apr 2015
