1964 Morgan Plus 4 Plus Coupe

Morgan introduced their Plus-Four-Plus at the 1964 London International Auto Show. The company president Peter Morgan was determined to bring the company his grandfather had founded at Malvern Link a half-century earlier into the modern era.

The Morgan Plus-Four-Plus was built on the standard Morgan tube-framed roadster chassis and given a fiberglass two-seat coupe body with an unusual 'bubble' top, fabricated by the firm of E.B. (Staffs) Ltd. in Stoke-On-Trent. Inside, there were bucket seats, a full compartment of instruments, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and ample room for luggage.

The Morgan +4+ was a departure from the traditional Morgan roadster, and it was not well received with the Morgan faithful. The factory was forced to abandon its plans for an initial production run of 50. Over a three-year period, just 26 coupes were completed and sold, many of them to the United States and Canadian enthusiasts.

This particular example is finished in Duck Egg Blue and has a known history from new. This is the 20th Plus Four Plus to have been built. The original owner was Gregory Nowakoski Junior, an American Foreign Service employee living in Saranac Lake, New York. Mr. Nowakowski traveled to the factory to collect his new purchase and have it sent to his home. Its factory dispatch date is recorded as September 12, 1964, and as new the car was actually finished in red.

Near the close of 1976, the car was sold to John Erickson of Yorktown Heights, New York for $3,500. It was quickly sold to a new owner, Jerry Williams of San Francisco, California. Five years later it was acquired by George Fink. Arriving back in Minnesota in 1983, it has remained with him ever since.

At some point in its history, it was repainted in its current Duck Egg Blue scheme.

The engine is a 2138cc Pushrod inline 4-cylinder Triumph engine fitted with 2 Weber carburetors and offering approximately 140 horsepower. There is a 4-speed transmission with disc brakes in the front and drums at the rear.
