1912 Peerless Model 60 Runabout

Pierce-Arrow introduced a model with an engine displacement of over 800 cubic inches in 1910, bringing the cylinder wars to even greater heights. Peerless responded in 1912 with the Model 60, which featured an 826 cubic-inch 6-cylinder T-head engine with its cylinders cast in pairs. It had a cylinder bore and stroke of 6' x 8' and fed through two giant valves per cylinder. A central carburetor on long brass runners fed the engine.

With ample power and equally impressive luxury, the Peerless Model 60 was both refined and well-engineered. Selling for $6000 in 1912, it was slightly higher than the Pierce-Arrows figure of $5750.

This particular Model 60 was treated to a restoration in the late 1960s. Based on an original Model 60 it has been modified to enhance its performance and looks. The chassis was shortened and modifications were made to the steering and brakes. The car was given a modern starter and electrical system. High-speed touring was enhanced with an overdrive system.

The car was part of the Craven Foundation Car Collection in Canada during the 1970s and 1980s. It was later sold at auction to the present owner. It has resided in its current collection for approximately 2 decades.
