Rolls-Royce introduced a new Silver Cloud in 1959 featuring a newly developed V8 engine along with a four-speed automatic gearbox based on the General Motors Hydra-Matic design. The Phantom rested on a long wheelbase and followed the Silver Cloud's layout. It was strengthened considerably by large reinforcements and front and rear track were of greater dimensions. They were special built and fitted with unique and luxurious coachwork to the customer's specification, and meant to be driven by chauffeurs.
During the production lifespan, lasting from 1959 through 1968, just 516 examples were produced. This particular example wears Limousine coachwork by James Young. It has been in single family ownership since the mid-1990s and is currently fairly original. It was presented to the last owners as a 50th anniversary gift.By Daniel Vaughan | Apr 2015
